Spiritual growth takes time. A vow to a monastic lifestyle was made in 1979. SummerLand Monastery, ATC was conceived in 1991. Incorporated as Summerland Corp. in 1994. WindTree Ranch was established as the mortgaged home of SummerLand Monastery, ATC in 1996. "Mortgage free in 2003" was our goal and we made it! Gas prices undermined our work on the land. Teaching off the land was accomplished from 2003-2008. In June of 2008 we moved to Mexico.

Now we are teaching rural subsistence farmer's children so that they will be able to support themselves in Mexico. We have lived on the USA/Mexico border long enough to know how non-productive a lifestyle can be when parents keep trying to "jump the border" for a better life. We are working from Central Mexico to increase educational levels from inside Mexico. Will you help?

What follows below are the original goals of the monastery. In carrying them out we realized that we needed to move into Mexico.

Today we seek to recycle books (no textbooks, magazines or novels) of high interest but low reading levels in Spanish or English. Our volunteers have always believed that a few people can make a difference into the hands of the needy rather than into yet another eyesore landfill……Our outreach charity work included recycling donations from the affluent areas of the USA into pueblos in Mexico. We are still working with other groups to improve the economy in Mexico and on our border so that the youth of Mexico will not escape into the USA (and endanger their lives in the process) but instead have jobs close to their homes. In Mexico Monasterio Tierra de Verano (SummerLand Monastery, ATC) does fund raising to assist volunteers in teaching and creating a library.

There are some rules for our monastery - See them HERE...........
